Two of a Kind

Queen Miss Kitty and Lord Ori

Most people don't know that we adopted Miss Kitty last year because she looks so much like Ori. Another Ragdoll that looked like Ori was hard to pass up. How many of them could there be in Casper, Wyoming?

Now the two of them look grand together and reign over the household from their throne from above (the top of the entertainment center). Ori conducts the royal interrogations and Miss Kitty announces, "Off with their heads!" Ruling over a household of cats and one corgi is very hard work. Someone is always stealing Miss Kitty's tarts or her favorite bed. I am sure if Herman would act as a warm pig for her feet she would demand it too.

Miss Kitty.
Ori.

Miss Kitty is insulted

I personally had no idea how easily a cat's... ahem... Kitty's feelings could be hurt, but apparently their stoic exterior shrouds a fragile ego and need for love, or in the case of blogs -- comments.

So, after having my pant leg shredded and admonished to only use a real camera with a proper flash when capturing her essence in all its fabulously furry glory, Miss Kitty agreed to let me live if I would touch up her last pic a bit and repost.

For the love of all that is holy, please tell her how pretty she is, what a lovely specimen of the feline species her form represents, and how much you want to rub her bunny soft belly. I only have so many pairs of pants.

Three Day Weekends

Washington's Birthday (or, as I grew up knowing it -- President's Day) is one of those holidays that don't really have much of a tradition. On Independence Day there are cookouts, fireworks, ballgames; Thanksgiving is for family dinners and, well, football; Memorial Day and Labor day -- more cookouts and picnics, but Washington's Birthday? Lazy day. It's the dead of winter so no cookouts or football. There's nothing to really celebrate (okay, okay, he was the first president of the US, but don't we already have an Independence Day? Yes -- see above)... it's a free day. That's why so many schools and businesses use it as the sacrificial holiday and hold school or stay open for business and instead give the Friday after Thanksgiving off.

But for us government worker bees it's a Monday off so we have a spare day to get caught up.

Today, Les and I took Herman to get his nails trimmed...
I hate getting my nails trimmed. They try to break my feet off. I know that's what they're doing, I do.

Did some general errands (including getting Simon's blood drawn for allergy testing -- no pic, but he didn't like it for sure), then came back and put in some Grey's Anatomy and Les broke out her knitting.

Feo's knee is acting up, so she was happy with the set-up.
Lesley made me this blanket. It's my favorite blanket, but Al keeps it hidden away until I'm sick.

And Boogs, well, last night he antagonized a Corgi twice his size and established his role as Dictator Supreme.
Pardon me whilst I survey my realm. Ah yes. All is well.

All in all it was a great Washington's Birthday. ;) Probably the best I have ever had considering my dad is home now recovering from a successful triple bypass and will fully recover and be around for many years to come. Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers!

Family

No long drawn out post this time. Just a picture and a request. Head over to my dad's blog (Art's Meanderings) and give him a cyber pat on the back for surviving his heart attack. He'll be having bypass in the next few days, but I have no doubts he'll do fine. He's my dad and I love him.

My dad, Art, and I on Casper Mountain.

Family photos...

...are usually un-fun, rarely get the whole "family," and usually end up with at least one member being less than happy about the whole situation.

Two guesses on who's not happy here. :)

Happy Birthday Al!

Hobbes says you'd better relax and go have a good time! (Or he will sit on you with all 20 pounds of fur and claws.)

How to relax:

Sharing

All I got in my stocking was coal.

Yeah. Coal. Made me sad.

What?

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a Corgi...

...or a Lab...

...or a Chihuahua (well, maybe a stir)...

...or a cat (if Hobbes has anything to do with it...

...the critters were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of catnip and bones and tennis balls and steak danced in their heads.

Merry Christmas.

Cookies

Right there.
On the coffee table.
Four inches from my nose.
I wish my legs would grow.

More fun raking

I mean, look at that face. Is he having fun, or what?

...and no way Oz is going to miss out on the fun!

Talk about photogenic. :)

Halloween

Herman and Simon are ready for their trick-or-treating...
Treats? I like treats. Yum!

Not sure I know what this whole trickertree thing is, but if Herman likes it I guess that's good then.

Problem is the treat they found wasn't too happy about it. :)
Crap. Please get this thing off me. Please.

Brenda's Tree

Brenda's Tree is a fundraiser we have started in memory of Lesley's sister Brenda and her unborn son Cian. We hope to make this an annual event here in Casper. Paws2Help is a local non-profit organization whose primary purpose is to provide medical care for animals in the city-run animal shelter, and has helped both Les and I with our rescues, Simon and Miss Kitty.

We just wanted to let our friends here know about it. :)

Click the flier to bring up one that's of readable font size.

Corgi Butts Giveway

Head over to Gibson's blog and enter to win a cute dog collar. Herman is going for the manly one. Of course, he really likes that pumpkin one too. It matches his complexion.

Hobbes learns to knit

As with any endeavor he tackles it with all his strength and energy.

"Seriously? Trying to sleep here."

Actually, he and Boogs were far more interested in the ribbons Les and I (well, Les) were making for Brenda's Tree (more on that later).

Mr. October!

Woo-hoo! Herman won a spot on the 2011 Corgi Butts Calendar! He's Mr. October!!

Congratulations, Herman!

"Does this mean I get more treats? 'Cause I like treats. I'll even pose for more pictures if I get more treats. I can do that. "

Smiles

Sometimes there are those moments that really bring a smile to your face.

Like when you realize you'll never convince your 85 pound Lab that his 11 pound buddy's bark really is worse than her bite...

...or when your favorite person says yes to spending the rest of her life with you.

Verdel the Terror

This little guy? No, he couldn't possibly be trouble incarnate. Look at that face (yes, Shih-Tzus look awful funny shaved). How could a face like that be the reason behind Les's insomnia? How could such a tiny little boy, staying with Les for a week while her dad and his gal are in Ireland, create such horrible havoc in the lives of the Ocats?

How? He's a cat chaser, that's how. And fast. Verdel, under that shaved mane, is nothing but fast-twitch muscle with a taste for cat meat. Or cat fur, anyway. So far that's all he's managed to get. Not for lack of trying, though.

Keep Les in your thoughts that she doesn't completely lose he mind before Saturday when Verdel gets to go home and herd cattle again (yes, he chases cows, too).

Simon helps Les with her knitting

"You can do it, Les! Look, this doggy sweater almost fits me already!"
I haven't the heart to tell him it's a dish cloth.

Of course, Feo seems fairly certain it's actually a babushka for her.
She's also far less enthused about that prospect than Simon.
